The HyIron Oshivela Green Hydrogen Plant near Arandis in Namibia's Erongo Region is set to make a significant impact on the country's carbon dioxide emissions, reducing them by 20,000 tonnes annually. This plant is the first in Southern Africa to utilize green hydrogen for processing iron ore. Governor Neville Andre Itope highlighted the plant's role in promoting sustainable prosperity in Namibia, with a focus on job creation, skills development, and agricultural investments. The region is already benefiting from green hydrogen initiatives, such as the Daures Green Hydrogen Project in Uis, which created jobs and supported SMEs. Additionally, the Cleanergy Solutions Plant in Walvis Bay is leveraging solar energy for hydrogen production and converting trucks to dual-fuel technology. The adoption of green hydrogen is reshaping Namibia's economic landscape and advancing its industrialization agenda.
