Essar Energy Transition (EET) has unveiled plans to build EET Hydrogen Power, Europe’s first hydrogen-ready Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant at the Stanlow refinery in the UK. The plant, expected to be operational by 2027, aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions significantly and position EET Fuels as a key low carbon hydrogen producer in the region. By replacing hydrocarbons with hydrogen, the 125 MW power plant will contribute to a substantial reduction in emissions, marking a milestone in EET's decarbonization strategy for the Stanlow refinery. EET's investment in the hydrogen plant is part of a larger $3.0 billion energy transition strategy in the North West of England, emphasizing sustainability and innovation in energy production. The project, comprising various strategic units like EET Fuels and EET Hydrogen, is geared towards achieving a remarkable 95% reduction in total emissions by 2030, positioning the refinery as one of the world's lowest carbon facilities. The launch of EET Hydrogen Power not only supports the decarbonization goals of the HyNet industrial cluster but also paves the way for future decarbonization efforts in the industrial and power sectors. This initiative is critical to EET’s commitment to creating high-skilled jobs in the North West and driving regional economic growth. Tony Fountain, Managing Partner of EET, highlighted the significance of EET Hydrogen Power in advancing the UK's low carbon energy agenda, showcasing global leadership in decarbonizing high-emitting industries. Rob Wallace, CEO of EET Hydrogen Power, emphasized the transformative impact of the project on the Stanlow refinery, positioning it as a crucial low carbon hub in the HyNet Industrial Cluster. The project underscores EET's commitment to sustainability and innovation, driving both environmental and economic benefits for the region.
