Voltalia, an international player in renewable energies, and TAQA Arabia have signed a framework agreement at the Egypt-EU Investment Conference 2024 to advance a green hydrogen production project in Egypt. This initiative is a continuation of their Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2022. The project will involve developing a cluster that integrates green hydrogen production with renewable power generation. It will be executed in two phases, with each phase featuring a 500-megawatt electrolyzer powered by 1.3 gigawatts of solar and wind energy. The facility, set to be situated near Ain Sokhna port in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, aims to produce more than 1,30,000 tons of hydrogen annually for each phase. Sebastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia, expressed optimism about Egypt's potential in green hydrogen production, highlighting the country's plans for green transformation. He emphasized the significance of this partnership with TAQA Arabia, a company with substantial experience in the energy sector, in supporting Egypt's shift towards a green sustainable economy. The project is expected to enhance Egypt's energy security by reducing its dependence on fossil fuels and aligning with sustainable development objectives. Pakinam Kafafi, CEO of TAQA Arabia, reinforced their commitment to fostering Egypt's green economy in alignment with governmental efforts. The partnership with Voltalia, NREA, SCZone, and TSFE signifies TAQA Arabia's dedication to driving strategic collaborations in the energy sector. Eng. Khaled Abubakr, Chairman of TAQA Arabia, underscored the EU's confidence in Egypt's economic progress, citing the country's reforms to boost renewable energy adoption. The collaborative efforts aim to propel Egypt towards a more environmentally friendly and sustainable energy landscape.
