Honeywell recently unveiled its latest technological advancement, Protonium, designed to revolutionize green hydrogen production through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). This innovative system targets key challenges encountered in hydrogen production, including high costs, energy management complexities, and operational inefficiencies. The inaugural implementation of Protonium is set to occur at Aternium's upcoming Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (MACH2) project, supported by a U.S. Department of Energy award. Aternium, a prominent U.S.-based hydrogen producer, chose Protonium due to its potential to elevate operational efficiency and safety standards. The Chief Executive Officer of Aternium, Andrew Cottone, emphasized the strategic importance of selecting Honeywell's Protonium portfolio to ensure optimal efficiency and safety across their facilities. Protonium consists of three core components: the Concept Design Optimiser, aimed at reducing the Levelised Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH); the Hydrogen Electrolyser Control System, facilitating performance monitoring and analysis; and the Hydrogen Unified Control and Optimiser, overseeing energy utilization and plant operations through cutting-edge technologies like digital twins and predictive analytics.
