India-EU Partnership for Clean Energy Innovation and Collaboration
Key Ideas
- India and the EU commit to advancing clean technology adoption and market integration for net-zero emissions.
- A joint research initiative with a budget of EUR 60 million focuses on EV battery recycling, marine plastic waste reduction, and waste-to-hydrogen technology.
- Knowledge exchange programs and workshops aim to enhance expertise in EV technologies and promote startup innovation in EV battery recycling.
- Future collaboration will include harmonizing standards for EV charging infrastructure and hydrogen safety regulations to support global sustainable energy systems.
During the second EU-India Trade and Technology Council meeting in New Delhi, India and the European Union have reaffirmed their dedication to clean energy and sustainable technologies. The discussions centered on advancing cooperation in green technology to drive the transition towards net-zero emissions. Both parties recognized the significance of research and innovation in promoting clean technology adoption and market integration. A joint research venture, supported by EUR 60 million, will focus on developing advancements in EV battery recycling, marine plastic waste reduction, and waste-to-hydrogen technology. The aim is to create low-cost, flexible, and sustainable battery solutions, improve detection and mitigation techniques for marine plastic waste, and enhance efficient hydrogen production from biogenic waste. Additionally, there is a strong emphasis on knowledge exchange and training, with Indian experts participating in programs on EV interoperability and EMC in Italy. Workshops on EV charging technologies and matchmaking events for startups are also being organized to boost innovation in EV battery recycling. The collaboration will extend to harmonizing standards for EV charging infrastructure and hydrogen safety regulations to support the global transition to sustainable energy systems.
