India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched a competitive bidding process for the production and supply of 5.39 lakh Metric Tonnes (MT)/annum of Green Ammonia, a significant step towards promoting Green Hydrogen in the country. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has issued the Request for Selection (RfS) under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme. This initiative is aimed at creating demand for Green Hydrogen and its derivatives within India. The selected producers will carry out production through cost-based competitive bidding, followed by an e-Reverse Auction process. The Green Ammonia produced will be supplied to fertilizer companies, contributing to sustainable practices in the agriculture sector. The MNRE, through the SIGHT Programme and the National Green Hydrogen Mission, is working towards achieving a decarbonized economy, reducing reliance on fossil fuel imports, and establishing India as a front-runner in Green Hydrogen technology. The mission, with an allocated budget of Rs. 19,744 crores until FY 2029-30, is not only a step towards self-reliance but also a move to inspire global clean energy transitions. By promoting initiatives like the Green Ammonia production, India is taking significant strides towards a greener and more sustainable future.
