Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, a Member of the Federal National Council and Deputy Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, recently called for immediate legislative action to tackle the escalating climate crisis. Speaking at the Legislators Forum 2025 in Abu Dhabi, he emphasized the crucial role of global parliaments in meeting the targets of the Paris Climate Agreement. Al Nuaimi highlighted the need for decisive legislative responses following the COP28 global stocktake, citing record-high temperatures in 2024 and the significance of financial frameworks and clean energy roadmaps. Meera Sultan Al Suwaidi, another council member, outlined the UAE's advancements in renewable energy, crediting ambitious goals, integrated strategies, and supportive legislative reforms for their success. She particularly spotlighted the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the Federal National Council's efforts in promoting sustainability policies and COP28 commitments. Al Suwaidi also revealed upcoming UAE initiatives, such as green hydrogen expansion, a regional carbon trading platform, and a national fund for climate innovation. The forum concluded with her appointment as Rapporteur, tasked with presenting the outcomes and key recommendations for enhancing renewable energy legislation to IRENA's General Assembly in January. The event underscored the UAE's commitment to climate action, emphasizing international cooperation and innovative policy-making for a sustainable energy transition.
