Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) has signed a quadripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Kerala, ANERT, BluJ Aerospace, and Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) to pioneer the world's first hydrogen-fueled vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft ecosystem. The partnership aims to leverage green hydrogen to revolutionize aviation and urban mobility, demonstrating a commitment to innovative and sustainable clean energy solutions. BPCL's plan to establish Hydrogen Refuelling Stations (HRS) in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram aligns with Kerala's Hydrogen Valley Program, fostering the adoption of hydrogen-powered transportation. Additionally, BPCL will focus on developing an Indigenous Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Hydrogen Fuel Cell to enhance power density for vertical lift-off applications. The MoU signifies a strategic collaboration to drive advancements in hydrogen technology, with key officials from governmental and industry bodies present at the signing ceremony. Furthermore, BPCL has also partnered with KPIT Technologies to deploy an alkaline electrolyser for hydrogen production and introduce a fuel cell-powered bus, showcasing a holistic approach towards sustainable hydrogen initiatives.
