The EMSD Symposium 2024, organized by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, took place in Hong Kong as part of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. The event focused on empowering high-quality development for a green future, with keynote speeches covering topics such as new energy, smart E&M, green transport, and efficient construction. Notably, there was a strong push for promoting renewable energy sources like green hydrogen and low-carbon hydrogen energy. Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Mr Tse Chin-wan, urged participants to seize opportunities in hydrogen development and establish Hong Kong as a hub for promoting the hydrogen industry and technology to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The symposium aimed to inspire innovative thinking and strengthen Hong Kong's role as a bridge between the Mainland and the rest of the world. Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Mr Raymond Poon, highlighted the importance of collaboration to optimize city management and promote integration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Collaboration agreements, including a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Guangzhou Association for Science & Technology, were signed to enhance technological exchanges and innovation. The event also included prize presentations for winners of the GWIN 2024 Smart City E&M IoT Application Challenge and the Hydrogen Fueled Street Washing Vehicle Naming & Drawing Contest. Moreover, the EMSD set up a WeChat official account to enhance communication channels with the public and promote cooperation between Hong Kong and the Mainland, further emphasizing the push towards green and innovative initiatives.
