In a significant development for Mindanao, plans are underway to construct hydrogen power plants in Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, and Zamboanga City, signaling a green energy revolution. A memorandum of cooperation has been signed by a French investor, the Mindanao Development Authority (MINDA), and local representatives to kickstart this initiative. These power plants will harness water to produce electricity, offering a cleaner alternative to coal and fossil fuels, with zero greenhouse gas emissions. Local governments are enthusiastic about the potential of this project to alleviate power shortages and spur economic growth. Officials from Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and Zamboanga City express optimism that the hydrogen power plants will meet power demands, create employment opportunities, and lower electricity costs. Dr. Trisha Goloran of Agusan del Sur highlights the region's growth trajectory and Governor's support for green energy. The project is also expected to address the power needs of areas like Siargao and boost their development. Additionally, the Zamboanga Ecozone administrator foresees a reduction in electricity expenses and job creation in the city. MINDA plans to extend these initiatives to 10 more locations in Mindanao, emphasizing the importance of conducting thorough studies before commencing construction activities to ensure successful implementation of green energy projects.
