The International Conference on Exploring the Potential of Natural Hydrogen took place at the Indian Institute of Petroleum & Energy on April 10-11, 2025, in Visakhapatnam. A model run by the U.S. Geological Survey unveiled at a previous event in October 2022 suggested there could be sufficient natural hydrogen to meet the world's demand for thousands of years. Leading industrial experts and academicians from prominent institutions participated in the event, emphasizing the potential of natural hydrogen as a clean and renewable energy resource. The conference highlighted exploration techniques, geological formations, and specific areas like geothermal hot springs and sedimentary basins as potential sources of natural hydrogen. The Geological Survey of India identified promising natural hydrogen prospects in the Andaman ophiolites, while research in Uttarakhand showed potential for natural hydrogen generation in geothermal hot springs. The event served as a vital platform for knowledge exchange, partnership building, and setting the direction for leveraging natural hydrogen as a sustainable energy solution for the future.
