The Spanish government has announced substantial state subsidies for two green hydrogen projects in Catalonia, located in the municipalities of Ascó and La Pobla de Mafumet. These projects, alongside others in regions like Galicia, Castilla y León, and Aragón, are part of a €1.2 billion fund from the Next Generation EU funds. The Ascó project, named HyBERUS, and the Pobla de Mafumet project, called Tarragona Hydrogen Network (T-HYNET), are set to receive a total of €236 million in grants out of a required investment of €617 million. These initiatives are expected to drive the decarbonization efforts in Spain, generating 4 GW of capacity and creating a significant number of direct and indirect jobs. The Minister for Ecological Transition highlighted the importance of these projects in establishing Spain as a competitive country in renewable energies. The projects not only aim to support the transition to sustainable energy sources but also to strengthen the local economy and create sustainable energy ecosystems. The government sees renewable hydrogen as a pivotal sector for the present and future, highlighting Spain's attractiveness and competitiveness in renewable energies. With these investments, Spain aims to position itself as a strong player in the global effort towards decarbonization.
