Namibia has marked a significant milestone in green hydrogen development and industrialization by inaugurating the HyIron Oshivela Green Hydrogen Plant, the first zero-emissions iron plant in southern Africa. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah officially opened the N$600-million facility near Arandis in the Erongo region, emphasizing its critical role in green hydrogen technology and achieving zero-emission iron production. The project represents a successful blend of strategic investments, local innovation, and global collaboration, with components sourced from various countries including the European Union, the United States, China, Japan, and Great Britain. The president lauded the project for its alignment with Namibia's development priorities, particularly in value addition, natural resource beneficiation, and industrialization. Moreover, the project's focus on job creation, especially for youth, during construction and maintenance phases was highlighted as a significant achievement. Deputy Prime Minister Natangwe Ithete emphasized Namibia's competitive advantage in the global market through investments in clean energy, positioning the country favorably in the production of goods made with renewable energy. This strategic move reflects a new wave of industrial development where businesses leverage Namibia's clean energy resources for sustainable growth. The HyIron project also received praise from the Ambassador of the European Union to Namibia, Ana-Beatriz Martins, who highlighted the successful partnership between Namibia, the EU, and its member states, particularly Germany.
