TotalEnergies has revealed significant investments and operational enhancements at its Antwerp platform, consolidating its pivotal role in the company's industrial activities in Europe. The site, with a rich history of 75 years, operates under an integrated refining and petrochemicals model, ensuring its resilience and long-term sustainability. Ann Veraverbeke, the managing director of TotalEnergies Antwerp, highlighted the continuous adaptation and investment in the site to ensure its competitiveness and future job provision. In line with their commitment to decarbonisation and the energy transition, TotalEnergies is intensifying efforts at the Antwerp platform by launching a substantial green hydrogen initiative. This initiative involves a partnership with Air Liquide to procure 130 MW from a 200 MW electrolyser project, ultimately enabling the annual production of 15,000 tons of green hydrogen. Additionally, the site will play a role in decarbonising the aviation sector through the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The initial project, commencing in 2025, will generate 50,000 tons of SAF annually utilizing coprocessing technology, which integrates hydrocarbons and biomass processing within existing refining units. TotalEnergies' strategic focus on sustainability, decarbonisation, and embracing green technologies reflects a positive sentiment towards enhancing the Antwerp platform's environmental footprint and long-term viability.
