The port has observed growth in cargo handling, handling 29.70 million tonnes of cargo, including 5.62 lakh TEUs of containers by December 19, 2024. Initiatives are in place for strategic capacity augmentation and cargo evacuation to enhance efficiency and market share. 501 acres of land have been allocated to four firms for green hydrogen and ammonia facilities. A pilot demonstration for green hydrogen production is underway, with completion expected by January 2025. With key advantages like all-weather capabilities and strategic location, the port aims to become the gateway port of South India. Plans include executing a green hydrogen pilot bunkering project and expanding infrastructure to accommodate various vessel sizes.
