The Delegation of the European Union to Namibia has committed €36.9 million to support Namibia's green hydrogen ambitions, with a focus on infrastructure development. The agreement was signed by EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and Minister of Mines and Energy Tom Alweendo at the Global African Hydrogen Summit in Windhoek. Minister Alweendo expressed gratitude towards Team Europe for their partnership, highlighting that the funding will directly contribute to building essential infrastructure rather than just reforming policies. The Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) emphasized the EU's support as a significant step towards positioning Namibia as a leader in the global energy transition. The investment is expected to boost Namibia's renewable energy capabilities while also fostering economic growth, creating job opportunities, and facilitating knowledge transfer. NIPDB stated that the EU's contribution reflects international confidence in Namibia's potential to become a global hub for green hydrogen production. The funds will play a crucial role in enhancing infrastructure, promoting technological innovation, and accelerating the nation's shift towards a low-carbon economy.
