AGA's Green Ammonia Project: Revolutionizing Renewable Energy in Australia
Key Ideas
- AFRY awarded Owner's Engineering assignment for AGA's green ammonia project in Australia, focusing on a reliable renewable energy system.
- 4.75 GW solar power plant with battery energy storage to power 3 GW hydrogen electrolyser capacity for green ammonia production.
- Project aims to produce nearly one million tonnes of green ammonia annually, reducing 1.8 million tonnes of global carbon emissions yearly.
- AFRY chosen for its engineering expertise in large-scale renewable energy projects and green hydrogen and ammonia developments in the region.
Allied Green Ammonia (AGA) has selected AFRY for the Owner's Engineering role in their flagship green ammonia project in the Northern Territory, Australia. The project aims to implement a renewable power and distribution system powered by 100% renewable energy to fuel AGA's green ammonia production facility. By utilizing a 4.75 GW solar power plant with battery energy storage, the project will support 3 GW of hydrogen electrolyser capacity for green ammonia production. This initiative is crucial for decarbonizing challenging sectors like long-haul transportation, aviation, shipping, and heavy industry. The anticipated outcome includes the annual production of nearly one million tonnes of green ammonia, leading to the avoidance of 1.8 million tonnes of global carbon emissions annually. AFRY's responsibilities involve overseeing the engineering design of the solar farm, its electrical systems, and the integration of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to optimize renewable energy utilization. AGA's Managing Director praised AFRY's selection based on their expertise in large-scale renewable energy projects in the Asia Pacific region. AFRY's Regional Director expressed confidence in their ability to contribute value to projects like AGA's green ammonia endeavor, given their extensive experience in solar power, battery storage, and green hydrogen and ammonia projects.
