Boosting Cross-Border Renewable Energy: Five EU Projects Secured Funding
Key Ideas
  • Five EU countries secured funding under the CEF Energy call for cross-border renewable projects, enhancing collaboration.
  • Projects include offshore and onshore wind parks, biomass heating, district heating, and a renewable hydrogen value chain.
  • Funding supports technical studies, construction works, and project implementation for a total of €67.4 million.
  • Initiatives aim to promote renewable energy integration across borders and contribute to deep decarbonization in the region.
The 2023 CEF Energy call for works and studies for cross-border renewable energy projects has resulted in the selection of five new Actions involving Estonia, Latvia, The Netherlands, Germany, and Poland. These projects span offshore and onshore wind, biomass, district heating, and green hydrogen/ammonia sectors, aiming to boost collaboration in renewable energy. The selected projects received funding for various purposes: 1. SLOWP will build and operate an offshore wind park in Estonian waters with €10 million for technical studies. 2. ULP-RES plans to establish an onshore wind farm in Estonia and Latvia border areas with €26.6 million for initial construction works. 3. UNITED HEAT focuses on decarbonizing district heat production in Görlitz/Zgorzelec, receiving funds for technical studies and constructing a biomass heating plant. 4. CICERONE-Ammonia aims to develop a renewable hydrogen value chain, securing funding for project preparations. The total funding of €67.4 million supports these projects to promote renewable energy integration and deep decarbonization across EU borders, driving the transition towards a greener energy landscape.
