Abraxas Power Corp. has announced an early contractor involvement agreement with McDermott for the development of one of Canada's first commercial green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities in Central Newfoundland. This project, led by Abraxas Power's subsidiary EVREC, aims to create a facility with the capacity to generate 3.5 GW of electricity from a wind farm and 150 MW from a solar PV installation. The production facility is expected to be capable of producing 165kta of hydrogen and 5000 metric tons of ammonia per day. McDermott will provide front-end engineering design, engineering, procurement, and construction services for the hydrogen production, ammonia processing, and product storage aspects of the Project. The partnership with McDermott is seen as crucial in leveraging their industry-leading expertise to ensure the successful delivery of the Project in a high-quality, low-risk manner. Abraxas Power, as an energy transition developer, aims to solve challenges in the energy sector and has a history of delivering large-scale projects across various disciplines. The Project also reflects Abraxas Power's broader mandate of transforming the global energy industry by exploring opportunities in different technologies and geographies. The development in Central Newfoundland is part of Abraxas Power's commitment to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors and contribute to the energy transition. The Project, once completed, is expected to deliver green hydrogen and ammonia to various markets, including Europe, in support of transitioning to cleaner energy sources. The partnership with McDermott and the overall development align with Abraxas Power's goals of value creation, stakeholder engagement, and community impact in the energy sector.
