Empire Diversified Energy, Inc. and Heartland Water Technology have joined forces in a partnership aimed at converting food waste into renewable hydrogen. This initiative is part of the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub (ARCH2) project led by Battelle Memorial Institute and the Department of Energy Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations. The project involves Empire's subsidiary, Green Gen, securing federal funding to develop a state-of-the-art facility that utilizes food waste treatment in an anaerobic digester to produce biogas. Heartland's HelioStorm™ technology will then perform methane pyrolysis of the biogas to create clean hydrogen and sustainable carbon black. The resultant synthesis gas will power the conversion system, reducing the reliance on the grid and fossil fuels.
