Emsteel and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) have collaborated to establish a pilot green hydrogen plant at Emsteel's manufacturing complex in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi. The plant's electrolyser capacity and equipment supplier have not been disclosed yet, with the facility utilizing solar power from the grid to produce hydrogen on site. This initiative sets the stage for Emsteel to transition from using natural gas to renewable hydrogen for steel production, aiming to decarbonize the steel industry in the UAE and the wider MENA region. During the plant's launch event, Emsteel Group CEO, Saeed Ghumran Al-Remeithi, emphasized the importance of the partnership with Masdar in accelerating the adoption of green steel production. Following the merger of Emirates Steel and Arkan Building Materials, Emsteel has become the UAE's largest steel and construction materials company, valued at $3.53 billion. With a strong presence in the UAE's industrial strategy, Operation 300bn, Emsteel holds a significant market share in the steel industry, contributing 11% to Abu Dhabi's manufacturing output.
