The European Commission has greenlit a substantial €1.4 billion investment in 13 hydrogen projects focused on mobility and transport applications. This funding falls under the fourth Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI). The approved initiative, IPCEI Hy2Move, is a collaborative effort involving Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovakia, and Spain. These member states will collectively contribute public funds, with the potential to attract an additional €3.3 billion in private investments. Margrethe Vestager, the executive vice-president overseeing competition policy, emphasized the pivotal role of hydrogen in achieving zero-emission transportation. She highlighted the significance of joint efforts in mitigating risks associated with investing in hydrogen-powered mobility technologies. The IPCEI Hy2Move is part of a series of IPCEIs dedicated to advancing the hydrogen value chain in Europe. This approval reflects a milestone in European cooperation and innovation, showcasing the effective synergy between competition policy and groundbreaking technological advancements.
