Former Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan has been appointed as the non-executive chairman of Frontier Energy, a renewable energy developer. The appointment, effective from September 2, comes as Frontier Energy aims to establish itself as a significant player in the renewable energy sector. During his tenure as Premier from 2017 to 2023, McGowan played a pivotal role in transitioning Western Australia from fossil fuels to renewables. His government oversaw substantial investments of $3.8 billion in new green power infrastructure, including initiatives for large-scale battery storage and renewable energy generation projects. Frontier Energy is currently working on the Waroona Renewable Energy Project and the Bristol Springs Green Hydrogen Project, positioning itself to be one of the largest renewable energy producers in Australia. McGowan's appointment is seen as a strategic move by Frontier Energy, emphasizing their commitment to sustainable green energy practices and creating value for shareholders. This development coincides with the Federal Government's initiation of the first WA tender for the Capacity Investment Scheme to drive renewable energy investments.
