German Ambassador to Cairo, Jürgen Schulz, announced Germany's support for Egypt's sustainable development goals, particularly in transitioning to a green economy. Germany is assisting Egypt in increasing the share of green energy to 42% by 2035 and positioning Egypt in the global green hydrogen market with a target market share of 5-8% by 2040. Schulz highlighted the importance of improving Egypt's electricity grids to support private sector involvement in green energy. Germany offers expertise and financing solutions, including concessional loans, to help develop Egypt's energy infrastructure. The cooperation between the two nations covers various areas such as green energy, climate change adaptation, and vocational training. Trade between Germany and Egypt reached €6.7bn last year, with support for Egyptian private sector companies to enhance imports and exports. Germany plans to continue its debt swap program with Egypt to address climate change and explore new developmental projects in the country. Additionally, Germany is sending business delegations to Egypt to explore investment opportunities in green energy, including green hydrogen. The first financing agreement for a green hydrogen project was signed in July, marking the beginning of a broader strategy for economic partnership. Future plans include a visit by business leaders from Bavaria in January and from Saxony in April to focus on investments in the energy and infrastructure sectors within Egypt.
