The Indian government has introduced five pilot projects under the National Green Hydrogen Mission to implement hydrogen in buses and trucks. These projects will include a total of 37 vehicles fueled by hydrogen, consisting of both fuel cell-based and internal combustion engine-based vehicles. The vehicles will be deployed on 10 different routes across the country, with the support of nine hydrogen refueling stations. The selected projects, with a total financial backing of INR 208 crore, involve major companies such as TATA Motors, Reliance Industries, and NTPC. The main focus is on developing commercially feasible hydrogen technologies for the transport sector. The mission's goal is to promote the adoption of green hydrogen as fuel in buses and trucks gradually. The initiative aims to demonstrate the safe and efficient operation of hydrogen-based vehicles and refueling stations, evaluate their performance and economic viability, and pave the way for their real-world implementation. Launched in January 2023 with significant funding, the National Green Hydrogen Mission is part of India's strategy to become self-reliant through clean energy and establish leadership in green hydrogen technology internationally, leading to a greener and more sustainable economy.
