Hyundai's Waste-to-Hydrogen Expansion in Indonesia with Pertamina and West Java Province
Key Ideas
  • Hyundai Motor Group collaborates with Pertamina and West Java Province to establish a waste-to-hydrogen ecosystem in Indonesia.
  • The initiative involves the development of an on-site hydrogen refueling station by 2027, utilizing existing CNG infrastructure.
  • Hyundai's expansion in Indonesia, under the HTWO brand, aims to produce low-carbon hydrogen from biogas at the Sarimukti landfill near Bandung.
  • This project marks Hyundai's first overseas expansion of its hydrogen production model, following successful W2H projects in South Korea.
Hyundai Motor Group has taken strategic steps to expand its waste-to-hydrogen (W2H) model overseas by initiating a comprehensive plan in West Java Province, Indonesia. This collaborative effort involves partnerships with key Indonesian entities such as the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of National Development Planning, and Pertamina, a state-owned energy company. Hyundai intends to establish an on-site hydrogen refueling station, set to be operational by 2027, by leveraging Pertamina's current compressed natural gas infrastructure. The station will be fueled with low-carbon hydrogen sourced from biogas generated at the Sarimukti landfill, located near Bandung, the capital of West Java. Building on its successful W2H projects in South Korea, Hyundai's Indonesian venture under the hydrogen business brand, HTWO, signifies a significant milestone in the company's environmental sustainability efforts. This expansion demonstrates Hyundai's commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices and utilizing innovative solutions to convert waste into valuable hydrogen resources.
