Indonesia is actively pursuing five clean hydrogen projects across various areas, such as Batam Bintan, Sumatra, Cilegon, North Sulawesi, and Sumatra-Java. These projects aim to harness renewable energy sources and the nation's carbon storage capacity to produce green and blue hydrogen. Deputy for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy Coordination, Jodi Mahardi, highlights the economic benefits and strategic advantages of Indonesia's involvement in clean hydrogen production. With a geographical proximity to high-demand markets like Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, Indonesia is well-positioned to meet the increasing global demand for hydrogen. The country's abundant natural resources, including vast natural gas reserves, CO2 storage capacity, geothermal potential, and solar power capacity, further enhance its competitiveness in the hydrogen sector. The government's focus on achieving net zero emissions aligns with the growing global interest in hydrogen as a clean energy source. As global hydrogen demand is projected to surge in the coming years, Indonesia's initiatives in hydrogen production are poised to contribute significantly to economic growth and environmental sustainability.
