SwitcH2 and CorPower Ocean have joined forces to develop an industrial-scale floating green ammonia production facility in Portugal. The project involves the construction of a floating production unit, featuring a 300MW electrolysis plant on deck to produce green ammonia. This facility, known as NH3-FPSO, will utilize wave energy and is expected to have an annual production capacity of nearly 300 ktonne of green ammonia. The collaboration aims to address the need for sustainable solutions in sectors like global shipping by leveraging renewable resources. SwitcH2's director expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with CorPower Ocean, emphasizing the economic benefits and the potential for market growth in the green ammonia sector. The commercial director of CorPower Ocean highlighted the significance of wave energy as a consistent and accessible source that contributes to a stable renewable energy mix. Additionally, SwitcH2 plans to expand its operations beyond Portugal, targeting opportunities in West Africa and Northwestern Europe as part of its strategic growth plan. The project aligns with the projected growth of the green ammonia market, which is expected to see substantial expansion in the coming years. Furthermore, SwitcH2 envisions a future project in the North Sea for green hydrogen production, connecting to offshore wind energy for power generation and distribution to key regions in Europe.
