The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jordan released its 2024 report on the Economic Modernisation Vision (EMV), emphasizing a significant reduction of JD90 million in electricity sector costs. This reduction was attributed to various measures such as self-generation fees, enhancing distribution company efficiency, and minimizing losses. Notably, gas production from the Risha field saw a 55 million cubic feet increase, while the installation of smart meters in governorates reached 63.9%. Energy loss from electricity transmission and distribution decreased by 11.5% compared to the previous year. The ministry's initiatives for 2024 focused on aligning with clean energy transitions, including projects like installing solar thermal systems in public hospitals for sustainable energy solutions. Efforts were also directed towards energy interconnection with neighboring countries and developing legislative frameworks for the electricity and renewable energy sectors to align with global standards. This aligns with the goal of reducing energy costs to positively impact economic growth and quality of life. Moreover, the ministry is actively promoting green hydrogen projects, with 13 memoranda of understanding signed with developers in this field. Additionally, the ministry received 9 technical reports from companies interested in investing in green hydrogen production. These initiatives showcase Jordan's commitment to environmental sustainability and the promotion of renewable energy sources within the country's energy sector.
