JSW Energy, led by Sajjan Jindal, is set to embark on a significant transformation by investing ₹1.15 lakh crore in diversifying its operations from power generation to energy products and services. This ambitious move was announced at the company's annual general meeting where Jindal revealed the goal to achieve a generation capacity of 20 GW and a storage capacity of 40 GWh by 2030. The new capex plan marks a substantial increase from the previously committed ₹85,000 crore. For the current fiscal year, the company plans to allocate ₹15,000 crore towards this strategic expansion. JSW Energy aims to broaden its market presence by incorporating generation, storage, and green hydrogen into its portfolio. To realize this vision, the company is exploring innovative energy solutions such as firm and dispatchable renewable energy, battery storage systems, pumped storage projects, and green hydrogen initiatives. Currently, JSW Energy operates with an installed capacity of approximately 7.3 GW spanning thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power sources. With successful bids to construct 4 GW renewable projects, the company's locked-in generation capacity is set to increase to 13.9 GW. Additionally, it has secured energy storage projects amounting to 3.4 GWh, which are in the development phase. With 2.6 GW of projects under construction, JSW Energy is well-positioned to achieve its 10 GW capacity target by FY2025. The company is also venturing into equipment manufacturing to mitigate supply chain risks and enhance its operational efficiency.
