Key Ideas
- KGAL Investment Management and KfW have committed a €30m grant to support Hydrojeel's green hydrogen-based ammonia project in Morocco.
- The project, located in the Jorf Industrial Park in Jorf-El Jadida, aims to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually by 2026 using wind and solar power.
- OCP Group will initially utilize the green ammonia for domestic fertiliser production, with plans to scale production to one million tonnes by 2027 and three million by 2032.
- The PtX Development Fund, launched by BMZ with €270m, is supporting hydrogen projects in the Global South, with a second round of funding closing in March 2025.
KGAL Investment Management and KfW have signed a deal to support a green hydrogen-based ammonia project in Morocco. The project, developed by Hydrojeel for OCP Group, is set to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually by 2026 at the Jorf Industrial Park in Jorf-El Jadida. It will utilize renewable energy sources like wind and solar power to produce green hydrogen, which will then be converted into ammonia for fertiliser production. OCP Group plans to use the green ammonia initially for domestic fertiliser production and aims to increase production to one million tonnes by 2027 and three million by 2032 to reduce reliance on imported grey fertilisers. Thomas Engelmann, Managing Director of the PtX Development Fund, praised the project's risk mitigation strategies. The PtX Development Fund, with an initial funding of €270m, is supporting hydrogen projects in the Global South, with a second funding round closing in March 2025. This initiative aligns with efforts to promote sustainability and renewable energy in Morocco's industrial sector.
