The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) has taken a significant step towards renewable energy development by shortlisting six consortiums and companies for the Al Dibdibah Power and Al Shagaya Renewable Energy (Phase III) Zone 1 Solar PV Independent Power Project. This project, situated in the Shagaya area of Jahra Governorate, 100 km west of Kuwait City, marks Kuwait's commitment to transitioning towards cleaner energy sources. Notable participants in the project include TotalEnergies from France, Trung Nam Construction from Vietnam, and consortiums like ACWA Power with Alternative Energy Projects Company, Masdar with Fouad Alghanim & Sons, EDF Renewables with partners Abdullah Al Hamad Al Sagar and Korean Western Power Company, and Jinko Power with Japan's Jera and Kuwait's NTEC. Aligned with its New Vision 2035, Kuwait aims to have 15% of its electricity generated from renewables by 2030, emphasizing sustainability and reducing dependence on traditional energy sources. Furthermore, Kuwait's strategic plans extend to 2050, as evidenced by the advisory consulting contract awarded to KBR by Kuwait Oil Company for the Renewables and Hydrogen Masterplan Project. This initiative targets an impressive 17 GW of renewable capacity and 25 GW of green hydrogen production capacity by 2050, showcasing Kuwait's long-term commitment to green energy and environmental stewardship.
