MAN Cryo has been awarded a contract by Torghatten Nord A/S, a Norwegian ferry company, to design and engineer two hydrogen-powered RoPax ferries. This project is part of a Norwegian government initiative aiming for major vessels on challenging routes to be emission-free. MAN Cryo will be responsible for the detail design of bunkering systems, hydrogen piping, and vent masts, as well as serving as the system integrator for the hydrogen process plant. The ferries will operate on green, compressed hydrogen and are expected to be delivered in 2026. These new vessels, designed by The Norwegian Ship Design Company, will navigate the 'Bodø - Værøy - Røst - Moskenes' ferry route in northern Norway. The hulls will be constructed by Cemre shipyard in Türkiye and towed to Myklebust shipyard in Norway for outfitting, where all hydrogen equipment will also be installed. This project represents a significant move towards sustainable maritime transportation in Norway, showcasing the country's commitment to environmental sustainability and technological innovation in the ferry industry.
