Oman is gearing up to expand its green hydrogen production through the upcoming third round of its green hydrogen tender set to commence in early 2025. The state-owned company, Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom), made this announcement during the GH2 Investor Day, held with the support of Oman's energy minister, Salim Al Aufi. The event, attended by global energy leaders and investors, emphasized strategic investment opportunities in green hydrogen. Discussions focused on bolstering local content and manufacturing industries, refining bidding processes, and fortifying infrastructure to solidify Oman's role as a critical global producer and exporter of green hydrogen. Oman has already granted contracts for eight green hydrogen projects, slated to yield around 1.38 million tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2030. These projects will necessitate a total renewable energy capacity of 34.8 gigawatts and an estimated combined investment of USD 49 billion. Notably, five of the projects are situated in Duqm, central Oman, while the remaining three are earmarked for the Dhofar region in the southern part of the country. The significant investments and strategic focus on green hydrogen initiatives highlight Oman's determination to play a pivotal role in the green hydrogen market and contribute to the global shift towards sustainable energy sources.
