Penspen, a renowned international energy consultancy, has secured a significant hydrogen blending contract from Conexus Baltic Grid, a natural gas operator in Latvia. The contract involves assessing the feasibility of introducing hydrogen blends into Conexus' existing natural gas pipeline network to optimize the infrastructure for a cleaner energy future. Penspen's UK-based integrity team will conduct studies to evaluate the impact of hydrogen on pipeline steel properties and provide recommendations to ensure structural integrity and safe operations under blended conditions. The collaboration aims to support Conexus' transition to hydrogen and contribute to global decarbonisation efforts. Ali Alani, director of asset integrity at Penspen, expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting Penspen's core strengths in materials engineering and pipeline analysis.
