Quinbrook, a global investment manager focusing on energy transition infrastructure, has initiated the development phase of the Green Iron Project in Gladstone, Queensland. Teaming up with Central Queensland Metals, Quinbrook aims to tap into Queensland's largest known magnetite deposit. Brian Restall, the Managing Director of Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, views this endeavor as pivotal for Australia's manufacturing renaissance. The project involves evaluating the Eulogie resource, rich in vanadiferous titanomagnetite ore, with an estimated 465 million tonnes for extraction. Quinbrook plans to invest in renewable energy and storage projects to power new manufacturing initiatives. The project's capital investment could reach $3.5 billion and includes ore exploration, mining, and potential green iron production using hydrogen from the Central Queensland Hydrogen Project. Export opportunities for ore concentrate and green iron are on the horizon, utilizing existing rail infrastructure to Gladstone Port. Joint ventures are being explored for hydrogen supply and renewable power delivery with Stanwell Corporation.
