Renewable energy developers in Latin America and the Caribbean are making significant strides with projects requiring a total investment exceeding US$253 billion, as per BNamericas data. The current portfolio includes 8,005 projects in early stages with an anticipated capital expenditure of US$233 billion, along with 703 projects under construction valued at US$20.9 billion. The region currently hosts 1,796 operational renewable energy projects after investments totaling US$113 billion. Brazil stands out with the most projects, followed by Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Argentina. Pacto Energia from São Paulo leads with 177 developments, surpassing other major players like Serena, Voltalia, and PEC Energia. The database projects advancements in various stages over the coming quarters, with notable developments expected in green hydrogen production. The largest project in the database, the H2 Magallanes complex in Chile by TotalEnergies, is a US$15 billion initiative encompassing a green hydrogen production facility, wind complex, transmission lines, desalination plant, and port infrastructure. Other substantial projects include Fortescue Future Industries' Pampas project in Argentina, TEG's Gente Grande project in Chile, and the Ceará green hydrogen hub in Brazil. The focus on renewable energy, particularly green hydrogen, indicates a positive shift towards sustainable energy practices in the region.
