The Romanian Hydrogen and New Energy Technologies Hub, known as Ro-HydroHub, was officially launched to drive the advancement of hydrogen-based technologies in Romania. Funded through the Smart Growth, Digitization, and Financial Instruments 2021-2027 Program, the initiative represents a substantial investment of nearly EUR 140 million, with a focus on modernizing the country's energy sector and accelerating the shift to green energy. The project, spearheaded by the National Institute for Cryogenic and Isotopic Technologies (ICSI Râmnicu Vâlcea) in collaboration with academic and private partners, will serve as a strategic center for developing hydrogen-based solutions. It will encompass research and innovation activities spanning hydrogen production, supply, storage technologies, fuel cells, and electrolyzers, alongside the creation of integrated hydrogen systems powered by renewable sources. Ro-HydroHub's objectives also include technology transfer to industrial entities to expedite the adoption of hydrogen technologies and the establishment of educational programs for training specialists through master's and doctoral initiatives. By promoting collaboration among academia, the private sector, and European institutions, the project aims to swiftly introduce innovative solutions aligned with the European Union's decarbonization objectives. The Minister of Investments and European Projects, Marcel Boloș, expressed confidence in the pivotal role of European funding in reshaping Romania's economic landscape towards one defined by innovation, sustainability, and technological excellence. Overall, Ro-HydroHub is positioned to play a crucial role in propelling Romania towards a greener and more technologically advanced future, emphasizing the importance of hydrogen in the country's energy transition.
