Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, has formed a joint venture with Bharat Petroleum, a leading Indian oil and gas company, to undertake renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in India. The collaboration aims to support India's energy transition and Bharat Petroleum's goal of achieving net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040. The partnership will explore projects in green ammonia production, emissions reductions for port operations, and other green fuel technologies leveraging Sembcorp's renewable energy experience and Bharat Petroleum's expertise in the petroleum sector. Additionally, both companies will focus on decarbonising challenging sectors while Bharat Petroleum plans to establish a robust 10GW renewable energy portfolio. While the joint venture will not significantly impact Sembcorp's financials, the company, which has a significant renewable energy presence in India, is actively looking into utilizing green hydrogen and ammonia for decarbonisation efforts in the country.
