The U.S. Department of Energy has initiated public scoping meetings and is seeking comments for an environmental impact statement on the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub until March 3, 2024. The hub, known as ARCH 2, is designed to generate 'clean' hydrogen and will involve the development of multiple infrastructure projects across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The focus of the environmental impact evaluation is to assess the consequences of providing financial support to Battelle Memorial Institute, the primary funding recipient and lead manager of ARCH 2. A virtual public scoping meeting is scheduled for January 16, 6-8 p.m., with three in-person meetings in February. Those interested can register for the virtual meeting online. Comments can also be submitted online through regulations.gov or via mail/hand delivery to a designated address in West Virginia. For further details and information, individuals are encouraged to visit the Department of Energy's website dedicated to the Appalachian Hydrogen Hub.
