Abraxas Power Corp. and EDF Group have announced a partnership to jointly develop the Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC) green hydrogen and ammonia project in Central Newfoundland. The project, known as a Power-to-X (P2X) initiative, is set to include over 3 gigawatts of onshore wind capacity along with energy and molecular storage infrastructure to facilitate the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia. EVREC plans to produce approximately 200,000 tons of green hydrogen and 1,000,000 tons of green ammonia annually, with the intention of exporting these products to global markets through dedicated port facilities. The collaboration between Abraxas and EDF as equity partners is aimed at reaching a final investment decision in 2026, with construction scheduled to span from 2026 to 2030. Colter Eadie, the CEO of Abraxas and EVREC, expressed excitement about the partnership with EDF and highlighted the project's potential to drive economic growth in the region and make a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions. The project is viewed as a crucial step towards a sustainable energy economy, positioning EVREC to deliver green hydrogen and ammonia globally while benefiting the local community and the environment.
