The B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE) has recently announced investments totaling $7.7 million in 13 innovative climate tech companies as part of its mission to accelerate transformative decarbonization solutions and support B.C.'s transition to a clean economy. The investments were made through CICE's Call for Wildfire Tech and the July 2024 Open Call for Innovation. The funding aims to drive significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and support early-stage companies developing clean energy and climate solutions. CICE allocated $3.5 million to six companies focusing on wildfire management technologies, including solutions for wildfire risk prediction, autonomous drone swarms for wildfire suppression, and lightning suppression technology. Additionally, $4.2 million was invested in seven B.C. climate tech companies working on breakthrough technologies in areas such as low-carbon hydrogen, battery technology, energy storage, and low-carbon fuels. The funded projects range from innovations like the world's first EV tri-blade snowplow to advancements in clean hydrogen production and low-carbon fuel technologies. These initiatives are designed to push the boundaries of innovation, reduce emissions, and transform industries towards a low-carbon economy. CICE's broader efforts include launching calls for energy storage innovation in collaboration with BC Hydro, with a focus on scaling energy storage solutions for decarbonization. They are also promoting women-led climate tech ventures to drive innovation, economic growth, and foster inclusivity in the energy transition. Overall, CICE has been actively investing in clean energy and climate technology projects to propel the development of impactful solutions and create economic benefits for B.C. and Canada.
