Empire's Partnership with Heartland Advances Sustainable Hydrogen Production in Appalachia
Key Ideas
- Empire Diversified Energy partners with Heartland to convert food waste into renewable hydrogen in the ARCH2 program, supported by federal funding.
- Heartland's innovative technology, like HelioStorm™, will be utilized to produce clean hydrogen and carbon black from biogas in the project.
- The project aims to reduce reliance on the grid and fossil fuels while promoting a sustainable, circular economy in Appalachia.
- Empire and Heartland's collaboration signifies a significant step towards achieving hydrogen goals and demonstrating the benefits of decentralized hydrogen infrastructure.
Empire Diversified Energy has signed a sub-recipient agreement with Battelle Memorial Institute to participate in the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub (ARCH2) project. The project, led by Battelle in partnership with the Department of Energy, aims to develop a state-of-the-art facility in Appalachia that will convert food waste into renewable hydrogen. Empire's subsidiary, Green Gen, will be one of the 11 Project Development Partners in the ARCH2 Hub. The collaboration with Heartland Water Technology will involve using innovative technologies like HelioStorm™ to convert biogas from food waste into clean hydrogen and sustainable carbon black. This initiative not only aligns with the vision of redefining waste but also highlights the importance of renewable hydrogen in creating a sustainable economy. The project, which has been ongoing since June 2024, aims to showcase the potential of decentralized hydrogen infrastructure and advanced technology in producing clean energy. By leveraging the ARCH2 hydrogen hub as a platform for collaboration and innovation, Empire and Heartland are working towards decarbonizing industries and promoting environmental responsibility in the region. The partnership signifies a significant step forward in converting waste into sustainable hydrogen production for Appalachia, with a focus on achieving environmental and economic benefits.
