NET Power, in collaboration with California Resources Corp., is set to explore deploying 1 GW of power capacity in Northern California to enhance carbon sequestration and reduce CO2 emissions. The partnership aims to site NET Power's modular facilities near underground storage reservoirs managed by CRC's Carbon TerraVault subsidiary. This initiative aligns with California's goal of transitioning to 100% renewable and zero-carbon energy resources by 2045. Despite progress in non-carbon energy generation, California still relies significantly on natural gas, facing challenges in grid reliability and infrastructure. NET Power's technology, based on the NET Power Cycle, combines oxy-combustion and a supercritical CO2 power cycle to produce electricity while capturing almost all CO2 emissions. The company is advancing its technology through a demonstration project, achieving grid synchronization and progressing toward commercial scalability. With plans to construct a 300-MW gas-fired power plant in Texas, NET Power aims to establish its technology as a cost-effective and reliable clean energy solution in North America. By leveraging cheap natural gas and emphasizing scalability, NET Power is poised to compete effectively in the energy market.
