RWE, a German energy giant, has announced the commencement of the Limondale battery project in south-west New South Wales (NSW) with Tesla as the supplier of the Megapack battery. This 400 MWh, 50 MW battery will complement RWE's existing solar farm and is the first eight-hour battery to be constructed in Australia. The project won the NSW government's tender, aiming to promote long duration storage solutions. The underwriting agreement provided by the government has facilitated attractive financing for the project, reducing the overall cost of the battery. The success of the Limondale battery has paved the way for future projects, including two more eight-hour battery installations. These projects, in conjunction with solar farms, signify a significant advancement in Australia's renewable energy landscape.
