Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, has partnered with Bharat Petroleum, an Indian oil and gas company, in a joint venture to work on renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in India. This collaboration is aimed at supporting India's energy transition and development objectives. The partnership also aligns with Bharat Petroleum's target of achieving net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040. The joint venture will explore projects in green ammonia production, bunkering, emissions reductions for port operations, and other emerging green fuel technologies. Both companies plan to focus on decarbonising 'hard-to-abate sectors' by combining Sembcorp's expertise in renewables with Bharat Petroleum's knowledge of the petroleum sector and infrastructure. Sembcorp underlined its exploration of green hydrogen and ammonia for decarbonisation in addition to its existing 6 GW renewable assets in India. Bharat Petroleum, a Fortune Global 500 company engaged in oil refining and petroleum product marketing, aims to build a robust renewable energy portfolio targeting 10 GW. The joint venture, which was preceded by discussions announced in September 2024, is not anticipated to significantly impact Sembcorp's financials for the fiscal year ending December 2025. The partnership signifies a significant step towards sustainable energy initiatives and showcases a shared commitment towards green projects and emissions reductions.
