Tata Power Company to Develop Transmission Works for Green Hydrogen Projects in Odisha
Key Ideas
- RECPDCL has handed over ERES-XXXIX Power Transmission project to Tata Power Company for developing transmission works for green hydrogen projects in Odisha.
- The project involves constructing substations, transmission lines, and other infrastructures to cater to the expected energy demand of about 3 GW by 2025-26 for green hydrogen and green ammonia plants in Gopalpur.
- Tata Power Company will provide transmission services for 35 years and pay annual charges of ₹2.9 billion for the project, which includes establishing, operating, and maintaining the infrastructure on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis.
- The Odisha government is promoting an inter-state transmission system corridor to supply renewable energy from outside Odisha to industries, aligning with the development of green energy projects in the region.
RECPDCL has entrusted Tata Power Company with the ERES-XXXIX Power Transmission project in Odisha to develop transmission infrastructure for green hydrogen initiatives. The project aims to support the growing demand for energy in Gopalpur, where green hydrogen and green ammonia plants are expected to require around 3 GW by 2025-26. Tata Power Company, along with other qualified entities, will construct substations and transmission lines, including 765 kV GIS substations and double-circuit transmission lines, to cater to this demand. The project, based on a build, own, operate, and transfer model, will be operational for 35 years post its commissioning by December 31, 2027. The Odisha government's recommendation for an ISTS corridor to bring renewable energy to industries within the state further aligns with the goals of the project. This initiative not only paves the way for sustainable energy solutions but also signifies a positive step towards reducing carbon emissions and promoting green technologies in the region.
