Tunisia is gearing up to launch its first green hydrogen project in 2030, with the aim of transforming the North African nation into a prominent hydrogen exporter. Wael Shoshan, the Secretary of State responsible for energy transition in the Tunisian Industry, Mines, and Energy sector, announced that studies for hydrogen projects are currently underway and are expected to be finalized within the next 2-4 years. The plans were revealed during an international hydrogen conference in the Eastern Gabes province, where Shoshan emphasized the economic opportunities that such projects would unlock for Tunisia. He highlighted that these initiatives could position Tunisia as a key exporter of hydrogen to Europe. The country has already secured partnerships with global players like ACWA Power from Saudi Arabia and Total Energies from France to drive forward its hydrogen strategy, which envisions the production of more than 8 million tonnes of hydrogen by 2050. This ambitious plan underscores Tunisia's commitment to transitioning towards sustainable and renewable energy sources. The collaborations with leading international firms and the upcoming green hydrogen project demonstrate Tunisia's proactive approach towards embracing clean energy solutions. The completion of the ongoing studies and the subsequent launch of hydrogen projects will not only bolster Tunisia's energy sector but also contribute to its standing as an emerging player in the global hydrogen market.
