Scottish and Southern Electricity (SSE) and EET Hydrogen have announced their collaboration on the development of the Gowy Green Hydrogen facility located in Cheshire. The facility, with an initial production capacity of 40Mwe, aims to supply green hydrogen to support industrial operations in the region. Feasibility studies have been successfully concluded, and the project is progressing with design and site investigation activities. Plans include submitting a planning application in 2025 with a targeted operational launch by 2028, pending approval. The project is endorsed by key personnel such as Jess Ledger from EET Hydrogen and Hannah Bronwin from SSE Thermal, underlining the importance of scaling up green hydrogen production for industry decarbonization. This initiative contributes to the UK's ambitious goal of achieving 10GW of low-carbon hydrogen by 2030. Furthermore, InnovateUK's Launchpad program has granted funding to energy firms for the Milford Haven: Hydrogen Kingdom project in Wales, further highlighting the UK's commitment to expanding its green hydrogen manufacturing capacity. These developments signify a significant step towards meeting sustainability targets and accelerating the energy transition in the UK.
