Uniper, an international energy company based in Düsseldorf, has signed a significant nine-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with an industrial gas producer to provide green energy for decarbonization in a major industrial area in Germany. The agreement, effective from 2025, will initially deliver 25 GWh annually and increase to 75 GWh from 2027 to 2033, specifically focusing on the production of green hydrogen. Carsten Poppinga, CCO of Uniper, emphasized the importance of reducing CO2 emissions due to climate change and highlighted Uniper's role in the energy transition, aiming to become a leading provider of green molecules and power products. Uniper's commitment to complete carbon neutrality by 2040 is supported by goals such as having over 80% of its power generation capacity as zero-carbon by 2030. To achieve these targets, Uniper is investing in the modernization of power plants, promoting solar and wind energy expansion, and integrating green gases like hydrogen and biomethane into its gas portfolio. The company is actively working on innovative, low-carbon solutions for decarbonization efforts in collaboration with communities, utilities, and industrial partners. With a focus on hydrogen, Uniper is engaged in global projects across the hydrogen value chain to establish hydrogen as a crucial element of the energy supply.
